“Good design goes to heaven; bad design goes everywhere” – Mieke Gerritzen
When we first looked at sourcing products we were searching for something unique. With so many espresso cups available online or in high street shops there was a feeling that what we were seeing was not quite good enough. The espresso cups we kept running into were illy collectibles, ordinary Lavazza cups and many, many bland plain white cups.
Then we saw Walküre. Walküre is a German company with an excellent reputation for design and quality of manufacture. Their range extends through other beverages including Tea, dinner items such as plates and bowls and also products for children. Great design exists in each product.
Firstly the materials used in manufacture are durable, solid and good quality. The porcelain espresso cups Espresso Deco sell have to be held to be truly experienced. Using porcelain allows the cups the perfect combination of style and substance – a shiny surface and a cup that retains heat well. Walküre are so dedicated to porcelain they have a whole Porcelain Museum showcasing their passion.
The unique shapes Walküre use in design are something quite special. Unique, dynamic, functional, deliberate, fun. These are some of the words that spring to mind when using a Walküre cup. Would another espresso cups manufacturer consider using ‘wind’ as inspiration in design? It’s hard to imagine. Walküre did. There are a number of cups in more traditional designs, but even they have a unique shape setting them apart from the usual brands.
Many collectible espresso cups have a mediterranean aesthetic, using lots of colours with a high-contrast feel. Walküre do achieve a hot, summer feel with the colours they apply, but on a rule of ‘few colours per cup’ leading to some striking appearances. The sheer vibrancy of some of the cups inspired our Summer Fruits Espresso Cup Offer. But it would not be a Walküre cup if they hadn’t gone one step further. With the introduction of the ‘Precious Metals’ range we were given Gold and Platinum-finished cups. When the gold cup is placed onto the saucer the whole cup seems to give off a warm glow. The expertise of Walküre is apparent when using these beautiful cups, available on the Espresso Deco shop.
