Guest Post – Espresso: A Great Study Aid
Growing up, my mother and father loved to drink coffee and I woke up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee every morning. However, I hated the taste. It wasn’t until I began attending law school in Massachusetts that my love for coffee developed. I began drinking it every day and I truly began to love everything about it. I know am a coffee fanatic and enjoy drinking it with my parents!
In the beginning, I was concerned about its effects on my body and how it might affect my fitness. I consulted with my personal trainer and he informed me that it’s not that bad for me, but in fact, is good for me. He actually encouraged me to drink a little before our workouts to give me an extra boost of energy! I feel good knowing that, in moderation, caffeine can be of great benefit to me.
I began drinking coffee when I met a friend at the local coffee shop to study. I ordered a café latte and it was delightful. As I looked around the coffee shop, I noticed how many students were in there studying and drinking coffee. The minute I began to drink my coffee I felt a surge of energy and the desire to study! As I started to study and drink coffee more often, I began to associate the two together. Sipping espresso and studying had become a ritual that I enjoyed.
I have found that caffeine not only wakes me up, it also has the ability to sharpen my senses and increase alertness. I have a short attention span and get bored easily, so coffee has helped to keep me alert and focused when I am trying to study.
I once read in a LiveStrong article that according to a study reported in the “Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychology”, a double-blind study revealed that school children who had caffeine performed better in attention tests, and showed greater manual dexterity and alertness than children given a placebo. The study also suggests that caffeine can be a learning aid by providing a short-term boost to study and attention skills.
