Guest Post: Coffee: The Solution to Unemployment Stress!
A fair portion of us are battling with unemployment just at the moment, with the scarcity of the current job market being of no help. I’ve been in this situation myself for some months now, and have been determined to do something productive with each and every day, to use my time effectively and work my way towards getting a new job- and it’s been a tough ride, but coffee has proved my saviour!
Unemployment is the most efficient reminder of the fact that, however much we may resent having to go to work in our normal everyday lives, it’s a natural human trait that we need to work. There’s nothing worse than the dragging of the days, the lethargy of having nothing to do with your day, the feeling of going nowhere, the unanswered applications, the frustration of seeing your mates move on with their lives while yours is on hold, with the worst obstacle to productivity being the overwhelming lethargy that kicks in as you succumb to a static lifestyle, meaning each day becomes a challenge to do something useful and productive instead of collapsing back on the bed and indulging in unhealthy overlong naps which only make you feel even worse. But coffee can be a perfect antidote to this de-motivating lifestyle, as I have found.
I was having serious issues with the whole lethargy thing, meaning that at least one day each week for me was a ‘sleep it away’ day instead of a productive and stimulating one. Sometimes there were more of the former days than the latter. I’ve always been more of a night owl than an early bird, but things were just getting silly when I was getting up at 1pm and still felt like doing nothing more than going straight back to bed- and all this when I had plenty of stuff to be getting on with. And it’s perhaps no wonder I was having difficulty when you consider that my main drink was Camomile Tea! So it eventually occurred to me that perhaps coffee would make a difference. So instead of Camomile, I began to drink a cup of espresso every couple of hours- and it has made all the difference I need! Espresso has been my ultimate savior and added a much-needed boost of energy to these days of unemployment.
Gone are the late, afternoon risings, now I’m up bright and early every day ready to face the day’s tasks. I’m able to settle down to all sorts of work more easily, whether it’s blogging and SEO work, jobhunting, or creative and artistic work- and the extra boost of energy means I can take healthy breaks between work to do a bit of exercise as well! Coffee has made an overwhelming change to my day-to-day existence in these tough times, enabling me to approach every day with enthusiasm rather than a ‘can’t-be-bothered’ feel, get on with and accomplish all tasks, both academic and artistic, retain my optimism and zest for life, get the exercise I need and ultimately live a much healthier lifestyle. And hopefully it’ll all pay off in the end, once I finally do get a job.
So for anyone else who’s struggling with the unemployed lifestyle, the first advice I’d give you is: don’t hesitate to make yourself an Espresso! A quick cup of espresso every few hours will help you regain the energy, motivation, optimism, alertness and ultimately the drive to succeed in getting yourself back into work!
