Micro-filters are the key part of the AeroPress. They ensure the coffee is very smooth every time. With a series of such small apertures each filter is made to stop any particles of a noticeable size entering the cup. Micro-filters can be disposed of alongside regular rubbish - it's easy to clean up the AeroPress by ejecting the puck of coffee remaining on the end of the plunger (usually with the filter stuck on the end).
